Man jailed for dangerous driving over M60 horror crash which left bits of his car scattered across carriageway

A man has been jailed following a horror crash on the M60 which left a taxi driver seriously injured.

Pieces of Akinmdeje Akinleye’s smashed-up hire car were left scattered across the carriageway after the collision near Cheadle last year.

A court heard how on October 27, the 38-year-old’s black Hyundai Tucson was spotted being driven the wrong way down the motorway in lane three.

The vehicle then collided with a black cab near junction 2, leaving its driver with serious injuries.

When police arrived, Akinleye, of Broadoak Road in Wythenshawe, was behind the wheel of the Hyundai still trying to drive despite all the airbags having deployed.

He was ‘red dotted’ with a Taser through a smashed window before being arrested and taken to Stepping Hill Hospital for treatment for minor cuts and bruises.

Akinleye was charged with dangerous driving, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.

He was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court on August 9 to 16 months in prison.

He was also disqualified for six years and eight months and ordered to take an extended test and pay a victim surcharge of £140.
