Motoring Services Strategy

The Department for Transport (DfT) has published its Motoring Services Strategy today (Thursday 12 May) which sets the overall direction for DVSA, DVLA and VCA until 2020.

The strategy was informed by the public consultation which ran from November 2015 until January 2016 and received over 250 responses.

It sets out how we can build on our enviable national road safety record and deliver more responsive and flexible services that better meet customers’ needs.

The strategy includes:

  • streamlining the processes for gaining a lorry driving licence
  • looking at whether some annual tests for lorries could be carried out by suitably qualified examiners in the private sector
  • reviewing fees, to ensure that fees are closely aligned to the service costs involved
